The ethos:Hi, I’m Duncan, welcome to my shop. Everything I sell has been grown produced or made within 50 miles of Brighton. On this site you can see how far your food travelled to Brighton by looking at the food mile sign at the top of the page of each supplier. I buy everything directly from the producer, guaranteeing freshness and provenance. This also brings you the consumer closer to the producer and any feedback will be passed on.
The people:Sussex and the City opened, in May of 2006. I set out to showcase the best of local food and drink. Having previously been the general manager of the environmentally intelligent Japanese restaurant Moshi Moshi, I was aware of many good sources of Sussex specialities. What started out as a bet in a pub with a friend, about the feasibility of opening a shop purely of local food, has developed into an award winning delicatessen.
The shop:The shop is located in the south Lanes. The second shop on the left as you enter the pedestrian twitten of Meeting House Lane from the North Street. The shop operates as a cross between a farmers market and a deli. All the local farmers market regulars are represented in the shop. The shop also boasts a cheese counter, light lunches, homemade soups, pies and Chaula’s curries. I also offer a £1.00 special baguette everyday.

www.sussexfoodawards.comWine tasting:Global warming and increased passion has seen a surge in quality and quantity of Sussex wine in recent years. Arguably we produce the best sparkling wine in the world. Our white, red and rose are also superb. I offer wine tasting to corporate groups and private parties. Last year Visit Brighton’s Conference team had a wine tasting for their VIP visitors, but I’ve also entertained neighbourhood parties and school fundraisers. The chance to taste 5 very different high quality wines is available from £6.50 a head.
